Catalytic Converter Measuring System CCMS System Description
The popular CCMS Catalytic Converter Measuring System manufactured by KoCoS provides a fast and efficient means of carrying out complex geometrical measurements on catalytic converters for cars. Various different models are available, enabling this system to meet the specific requirements connected with the manufacture of both catalytic converter substrates and exhaust systems. The range of test specimens includes all common monolith shapes, e.g. round, oval, potato-shaped, etc.. Installation in a mobile rack with special dust protection facilities make the Catalytic Converter Measuring System suitable for use as a portable device directly on the factory floor. The system uses laser scanning enabling it to make non-contact measurements with the utmost precision. The very high measurement speeds even make it possible to carry out 100% tests within the production line. A laboratory version is available for sampling inspections. All control, data acquisition and evaluation functions are performed automatically using a built-in PC. The contour of the monolith is measured along freely definable measurement paths. These measurements can be used to produce an image of the 3D external contour which is then used as the basis for all further evaluations. The flexible evaluation software is capable of performing comprehensive contour tests as well as calculating a multitude of geometrical parameters, such as diameters, radii, shape tolerance, minimum circumscribed circle, maximum inscribed circle etc.. During the manufacture of catalytic converters, certain contour parameters are passed on to the production equipment for each specific test specimen via interfaces. This enables the canning process to be optimised for each individual test specimen. By repeating measurements after canning it is possible to characterize the gap filled by the supportive mat. The Catalytic Converter Measuring System determines the dimensions of the gap and the densities of the mat (GBD) automatically. Displaying these quantities in relation to the orientation of the test specimen is particularly useful for non-round catalytic converters. A special machine operator module is available in addition to the user-friendly evaluation software. This module is used to run pre-definable measurement procedures with just a few clicks of the mouse. With the extensions which are currently available, the system is able to carry out automatic measurements on catalytic converters with end cones ("clam shell") or tapered ends and catalytic converters with more than one monolith. |
