ARDAS-LS measuring systems function according to the dynamic light-sectioning method in which the different reflection properties of various surfaces are automatically compensated for by constant regulation of the intensity of the laser.

The test specimen is illuminated by the light-sectioning line in this manner. The detection module is positioned at a certain angle and detects the laser light scattered from the object surface. Because of the defined angle between the laser and the detector, the lateral displacement of the laser line is interpreted as a difference in height on the surface and evaluated accordingly.

A curve is then created in the image area of the CCD camera representing the surface contours of the object along the light-sectioning line.
