Light-sectioning Measuring Systems

Basics

The constantly increasing demands placed on the dimensional accuracy of workpieces call for more and more precise measurement methods for their characterisation. Opto-electronic measuring systems which can measure extremely accurately are being used with increasing frequency. In addition to an ideal combination of repeatability and speed, these systems also offer all the advantages of non-contact measurement.

Dynamic light-sectioning measuring systems which automati-cally compensate for the various reflection properties of different materials readily lend themselves to the digitalisation of object surfaces. By moving the light-sectioning sensor or the workpiece in a defined manner, these systems are able to deliv-er the complete 3D topography of the surface of a workpiece.
The CAD/CAM data required for prototyping purposes, for example, can be obtained in this way and used directly for programming CNC machine tools for the production of models.

Light-sectioning measuring systems simplify comprehensive quality analysis in the context of quality assurance by automat-ically comparing the nominal and actual values of production drawings and finished workpieces. Fully automated measuring systems can be integrated directly in production lines permitting uninterrupted quality inspection or control of the production process.
