Measurement Task

The measurement task consisted of performing a 360° measurement of the contour of ceramic monoliths with various shaped bases and a maximum height of 300 mm. The diameters of the test specimens lay between 50 and 250 mm and a measurement accuracy of ±20 µm was required.

For the characterization of the contour, the measurement had to be carried out at three different levels. For this reason the measuring head was required to move to three different measuring positions automatically within the height range of the test specimen and to do so at a high speed dictated by the need to adhere to a maximum total measurement time of 20 s.

In addition, the geometry of the gap between sleeve and monolith which is filled with a flexible mat had to be determined in relation to the orientation by means of differential measurements before and after the canning process.
